Closing Speaker : Mark Jackson


Mark JacksonA native of Portland, Oregon, Mr. Jackson is a 1995 graduate of Portland State University with credentials in Sociology, Communications, English and Black Studies. He was also nominated for the Portland State University Leadership Fellows Program for Nonprofit Management in 1995. He has since worked for reputable non-profit organizations such as Self Enhancement Inc. and the I Have a Dream Foundation-Oregon.

In 2001, Mr. Jackson help found REAP, Inc. (Reaching Empowering All People), a nonprofit educational mentoring organization. REAP, Inc. currently provides mentoring and student leadership programming within David Douglas School District, Portland Public School District and Beaverton School District. Mr. Jackson’s work within REAP has been featured in the Oregonian, Beaverton Valley Times, Fox News, The Skanner, The Portland Observer and OPB Radio News.

Mr. Jackson brings to REAP, Inc. over fifteen years of youth programming and organizational management experience. Mr. Jackson has provided visionary leadership in both the nonprofit and public sector that engages business leaders, educators, students, community leaders and parents. He is best known for his passion in the areas of youth advocacy, leadership development and community organizing. 

Passion for change is what underscores Mark Jackson’s unwavering commitment to empower under-achieving students to meet their potential while challenging educators to teach beyond cultural biases. Whether organizing student leadership conferences, facilitating provocative and engaging workshop presentations, moderating proactive listening circles or connecting with disengaged high school students, Mark is emerging into one of the leading voices for youth advocacy and community leadership in Portland, Oregon. His dream - To have a culture of equity in public policy and academia by having ALL students respected as leaders for change.

Mr. Jackson has provided keynote addresses and presentations for the following: Nike, Portland Schools Foundation, Oregon Department of Education, Portland Public Schools, Citizen’s Review Board Training Conference, Portland State University Black Bag Professional Lecture Series, Latino/African American Unity Summit, and Portland State University School of Business Diversity Career Panel. Mr. Jackson currently serves as an External Resource Expert the Oregon State Board of Higher Education Student Participation & Completion Subcommittee and a Community Learning Partner with Portland State University.
